Visual Arts Building at the College of Santa Fe

St. Michael’s College, established in 1859 primarily as an elementary and secondary school, was chartered by the Territory of New Mexico in 1874 to confer degrees. It wasn’t until 1947 that a full-fledged higher education program was begun at the former Bruns Army Hospital.  In 1966 the college enrolled women and changed its name to the College of Santa Fe.  The college has built new facilities, expanded its programs, offered graduate degrees and has established a campus and course offerings in Albuquerque.

St. Michael's High School

Responding to an invitation from Archbishop Lamy, five Christian Brothers arrived in 1859 to establish a school attached to the old San Miguel Mission.  From its humble beginnings in mud-walled classrooms, through new buildings to a new campus, St. Michael’s continues to serve the educational needs of the youth of Santa Fe.  The move away from its historic campus on the Old Santa Fe Trail in 1968 to a new facility on the edge of Santa Fe also brought the admission of young women with the closing of Loretto Academy.  Today this school, grades 7 through 12, has an enrollment of 744 students
