Lasallian Youth is an international
movement that involves high school students in the vision and mission of St.
John Baptist de La Salle. It seeks to deepen the faith and prayer life of
its members while at the same time providing opportunities to serve the poor
in a communal effort. Borrowing the initials F S C (Fratres
Scholorum Christianarum—Brothers of the Christian Schools), Lasallian
Youth focuses on addressing and deepening the areas of Faith,
Service and Community in young people’s lives.
Students deepen their spiritual lives
through such activities as daily or weekly prayer meetings, Masses for the
group, discussion groups, learning more about St. John Baptist de La Salle’s
vision, and attending conventions. Service initiatives include such
projects as feeding the poor at soup kitchens, tutoring elementary and
middle school students, building houses with Casas Por Cristo or Habitat for
Humanity, visiting the sick and elderly, collecting and distributing food to
the poor, helping immigrants prepare for citizenship, and writing letters to
overseas troops. These activities help to build a community of
faith-filled, sharing individuals.
In the New Orleans-Santa Fe District,
Lasallian Youth groups are found in each of the individual high schools
although they may be known by different names.
