Established in 1931 as an orphanage for adolescent boys, J. K. Mullen High School has been transformed into the largest, private high school in the state.  Day students and boarders joined the orphans in the 1950’s, but in the 1960’s the boarding and orphanage program were phased out.  In 1989 the first female students were admitted to Mullen. A building program has converted the campus into a complex equal to the educational challenges of its 1020 students.
