The New Orleans-Santa Fe District is one of six Districts
in the United States-Toronto region of the Brothers of the Christian
Schools. Founded in 1921, we are ninety-four Brothers and over six
hundred Lasallian Colleagues strong. We sponsor ten educational
institutions (a college, seven high schools, one middle school, and one
elementary school) in Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado; we
are collaborating with the District of San Francisco on a high school in
Arizona. Our Provincialate is situated at the end of a beautiful oak
alley in Lafayette, LA.
Our spiritual and educational
roots are deep, extending back to 17th Century France, and the
first seedlings of our District were planted in New Orleans in 1851. Although
our Brothers advance in age and decline in numbers, our Colleagues grow in
faith and zeal and in the knowledge and love of the legacy given to us by
our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle. Together we continue to
rely on the direction of God, and we continue our mission "to give a human
and Christian education to the young, especially the poor."
